What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure is an extra security feature of your child's debit or credit card that helps keep money safe when shopping online. Visa calls its version "Visa Secure". 3D Secure works with participating retailers only. You will know that an online merchant is a participating retailer when you will see the Visa Secure logo.

Will 3D Secure apply to transactions made by my child?

Yes. 3D Secure applies to all online transactions regardless of age.

Will every transaction require 3D secure?

No. Certain low-value and recurring transactions for the same amount (e.g monthly membership or subscription fees) do not require 3D Secure, as the risks associated with them are very low. Also, 3D Secure works with participating retailers only.

How does it work and what do I need to do?

Rest assured - we did the hard part! You don't need to do anything as it is something we do automatically. The only thing we need you to do is make sure that the personal information we hold about you/your child (in particular your or your child's mobile phone number) is up to date. You will also need to have your or your child's mobile phone or gohenry app near you when completing a transaction. Here is why:

When your child is about to make a transaction that requires 3D Secure, they will be brought to a Visa Secure screen. To complete the purchase, your child will be prompted to enter a one time code sent by text to their phone (or yours, if your child doesn't own one). You will know it's a genuine text message from us if you get it just after you or your child have entered your child's card details online and it contains the last four digits of your child's card number

Alternatively, the payment can also be approved by providing personal information within your child's app. Personal information means either your child's account PIN, password, fingerprint or face ID.

Once that's done and submitted, the merchant will process the payment. If you or your child refuse to or are unable to provide the requested information to validate your child's identity, the transaction may be declined.

Please remember that you can turn off your child's online payments at any time in your preference settings.

Can a transaction be declined?

Yes. As mentioned above, a transaction may be declined if you or your child refuse to or are unable to provide the requested information to validate your child's identity. We may also suspend, limit or decline to process a transaction if needed to protect the security of your or your child's account; if necessary to prevent a crime or other misuses of your child's account; if the transaction appears unusual compared to how your child normally uses his gohenry card (think buying an aeroplane); if your child has lost his gohenry card; or because we are required to do so by any party which assists us in providing Visa Secure.

Can the service be suspended or terminated?

Yes. We may, at any time, discontinue, terminate or suspend (permanently or temporarily) Visa Secure, without giving your prior notice. We may also change any aspect or functionality of Visa Secure at any time without giving you prior notice. Situations where we end your use of these services are for example a breach by you or your child of these terms of use.

What is our liability to you?

Unless you are a victim of fraud, you are responsible for all instructions sent using Visa Secure. We will not be liable to you for any damages arising out of your use or inability to use the Visa Secure; or any other failure such as for example (and without limitation) mobile phone reception or network connection failures, internet connection failures, machine failures or industrial disputes. If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the Visa Secure, your sole and exclusive remedy is to terminate participation in the relevant services.

How can you help us keep your child's account secure?

  • Please tell us immediately if you child's card gets stolen or if you suspect that your child's passcode is known to someone else.
  • Never let your child lend his gohenry card to anybody else
  • Use care to prevent anyone seeing your child's card details being entered at the time of authentication.
